Good Morning Bratislava

St. Martin's Cathedral
Built in the 13th Century this gothic cathedral was the coronation sight for ten kings and one queen, Maria Theresa who is known as the most powerful ruler of the Hapsburg Dynasty. Note the top of the spire is NOT a cross, but is instead a replica of St. Stephen's crown (see close-up below)....
The Interior
Close-up of the altar
St. Martin's was once part of the wall surrounding the city, and here you can see one of the turret's still makes up part of the exterior of the cathedral. But what is uniquely interesting is on the left side of the turret......see the extension and how the bottom is open? That's because this was a bathroom facility in the fortification (it sat over the moat originally!)
Michael's Gate
In Medieval times Bratislava was completely walled in and there were four gates. Three of the gates no longer exist; the one that does remain is Michael's Gate, pictured here (the arch way)
Rowland's Fountain
The Creepy Old Man Statute
First, it's "interesting" that there is a statute of a Bratislavan man hanging out in a man-hole; second, the story that goes with this is that he is hanging out here trying to look up the skirts of unsuspecting women who walk by. But third, and most "interesting" is that it is believed you will have good luck if you rub the button on his cap!
The Strawberry Daquiri
Well, it didn't taste any more strawberry than it looked, and it certainly was not frozen in any shape or form (as advertised). And check out the receipt. Like all receipts we've been given.....there's a lot of letters we don't understand, and some numbers that are "foreign" to us. So the best practice is to simply sign, smile and enjoy your purchases!
